One of the fishes that I have grown to love here in the U.S. is salmon. Back in my hometown, we didn’t have salmon other than that in cans so I was never a fan. With fresh seafood delivered to us everyday by our fish vendor friend, how could I love fish that came from a can? There’s nothing better than fresh seafood that just came out of the Sarangani Bay at the base of my city.
My hometown city – General Santos – is actually called the Tuna Capital of the Philippines so other than other fish varieties, different kinds of tuna abound in my city. Tuna is kind of expensive here in the U.S. and so it is salmon that we often get since it is cheaper.
I came across this recipe on Instagram from the food blog, PinchofYum. I have been following this blogger couple’s posts for a while now. I have been reading their blog and drooling over their food photos. Strange though that I’ve never tried any of their recipes until I saw this. She didn’t post this on their blog, but only on her InstaStories.
This is also the first time that I’ve used canned salmon. We always buy the packages 0f fillets but canned was what her recipe called for so that’s what I did. But I tweaked it a bit. One of the ingredients in her recipe is Greek yogurt…I decided to skip that, so here’s what I did:
- 3 cans (5 oz) canned salmon
- 1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3 eggs
- Olive oil
- Heat the oil.
- Mix all ingredients.
- Create a burger out of the mixture.
- Fry in pan until golden brown.
- Serve in burger buns or pair with rice.
When it comes to meals, it is always rice that I chose to pair with my dishes. Since it is supposed to be salmon burgers, shouldn’t they be on a burger bun? Well, that’s what my husband did. He put one salmon burger on a bun and then put salad dressing instead of mayonnaise on the bun. He loved it! I loved mine paired with the rice too. 🙂
And please don’t mind the imperfect shape, okay? It’s delicious and that’s the most important thing, right? 😀
Have you tried salmon burgers before?
Happy Friday folks and enjoy your weekend!
